Is it permissible to abort a fetus to postpone pregnancy—not out of fear of inability to provide—given that the pregnancy is no more than one month along, and the husband does not have private housing or a job, and the couple desires stability, to furnish their home, and for the wife to learn household matters before having children?

Scholars have differed on the permissibility of aborting the 'nutfa' (zygote/embryo) before forty days. Some have permitted it, so long as the fetus has not been formed or the soul has not been breathed into it, basing their views on the statements of jurists such as Ibn al-Humam, al-Qalyubi, and al-Mardawi. Others, however, have prohibited it, such as al-Dardir, al-Ramli, and al-Ghazali, considering the destruction of the 'nutfa' after its settlement in the womb to be a transgression.

Based on this disagreement, one should not proceed with aborting the 'nutfa' except for a valid excuse, out of caution in religious matters and to clear one's conscience, while feeling God's blessing in granting offspring. It is recommended to maintain the pregnancy and seek guidance from Allah Almighty through Istikhara, and the wife's consent is a prerequisite for such an action.
