Is a patient who suffers from continuous sweating and the presence of deposits and sand in the urinary tract, and knows with certainty that he will be exposed to severe pain and urination of blood if he fasts, obliged to fast until these symptoms appear and then break his fast, or is he permitted to break his fast immediately, and what are the consequences in both cases?
It is out of Allah Almighty's mercy toward His servants that He has removed hardship from them, made the religion easy, and permitted the sick person to break their fast in Ramadan and make up the missed days, as Allah Almighty says: "But whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days." If the illness is one for which breaking the fast is permissible, then there is no blame on the sick person for breaking their fast as long as they are certain that fasting will harm them. If the illness is expected to be cured, the sick person must wait until they recover and then make up the fast. If the illness is not expected to be cured, and the sick person can make up the fast during short, cold days, then they must do so. If the illness is not expected to be cured and they cannot make up the fast at all, then they must feed a poor person for each day they break their fast.
