How can I deal with my parents' continuous pressure for me to study medicine and excel in it, while I wish to dedicate myself to worship, and he refuses that and resorts to violence, knowing that my attempt to combine the two leads to immersion in worldly matters and trials for my family?
Devoting oneself to worship and abandoning marriage is a blameworthy approach that goes against the prophetic guidance. It deprives the self of the good in this world and the hereafter. As for obeying the father concerning studying, his obedience is obligatory unless it entails harm. If it entails harm, then obedience is not obligatory. In such a case, one should try to convince him to forgo studying and seek assistance from those who can help, and supplicate frequently. If he insists and abuses, then one must fear Allah, be patient, and show dutifulness to him in all circumstances, for the father's ill-treatment does not negate the son's duty to be dutiful.
