What is the ruling regarding a husband's request for divorce due to his lack of love for his wife and the frequent disputes between them, given that the wife does not desire divorce and wishes to persevere and pray?
Marital life is not without problems, and spouses should overlook mistakes and address them wisely. The husband should be the first to accept his wife's apology. One should not resort to divorce for the slightest reason. Jurists dislike divorce without cause, and some have even prohibited it. Lack of love is not a reason for divorce, as love can develop, and marriage fulfills other interests. Disputes with the wife's family can be resolved. Patience and prayer are recommended, as is treating the husband well and adorning oneself for him. One should seek the help of wise people to persuade the husband to reconsider divorce. If divorce occurs, one should not regret it, as it may be better for them, in accordance with His (Allah's) saying: "But if they separate [by divorce], Allah will enrich each of them from His abundance. And ever is Allah all-Encompassing, all-Wise." [An-Nisa 4:130] For separation may be better than a bad cohabitation.
