Is people's talk about the bad smell coming from me, accompanied by mockery and provocation, an expiation for my sins, and will I be rewarded for their backbiting me? And is their talk about my smell considered backbiting? And is it permissible for me to supplicate against them by saying, "Allah suffices me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs concerning them," and that Allah afflicts them with the like of what I have been afflicted with?

Whoever mentions you with what you dislike in your absence has backbitten you, and backbiting is forbidden (haram). And whoever mentions you with what you dislike in front of you, this is not backbiting, but rather mockery and ridicule, which is also forbidden. The worry and grief that befalls you because of this expiate your sins. And whoever backbites you or ridicules you will have their good deeds taken from them on the Day of Judgment to compensate for your injustice, and if their good deeds are exhausted, then they will take from your bad deeds. You are permitted to supplicate against the one who wrongs you to the extent of their wrongdoing, but it is better to forgive them.
