We advise you to occupy yourself with the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, and to read the books of the Salaf that discuss matters of faith and creed. The Salaf warned against scholastic theology (ilm al-kalam) and its practitioners. Among what Imam Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said about them: "My judgment concerning the people of scholastic theology is that they should be paraded among the tribes and beaten with palm branches and sandals, and it should be announced, 'This is the recompense of one who abandons the speech of Allah and the speech of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him.'"
