What is the ruling on eating carrion in Western countries?

It is not permissible to eat the meat of any animal that requires ritual slaughter unless it has been ritually slaughtered, and the one who slaughtered it was a Muslim or a person of the Book (a Jew or a Christian). If the animal was not slaughtered, or if the one who slaughtered it was a disbeliever who is not a person of the Book (an atheist or an idol worshipper), then it is not permissible to eat it, as it is considered carrion, whether this is in Western countries or elsewhere. This is based on the Almighty’s saying: (Forbidden to you are carrion) and His saying: (Say, "I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden to a consumer who eats it, except that it be carrion.")
