Is it permissible to eat meat not slaughtered according to Islamic law due to its extreme unavailability in Western countries?

An animal is considered carrion if it has not been slaughtered according to Islamic law (dhakah shar'iyyah). Carrion is forbidden and impure by the texts of the Qur'an, Sunnah, and scholarly consensus (ijma'), so it is not permissible for a Muslim to eat it. Meat can be substituted with fish, or halal meat can be purchased in quantities and stored.
