The answer

The noble Sunnah of the Prophet contains several supplications for travel, including what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would say when he mounted his riding animal for travel: "Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we were not able to subjugate it. And indeed, to Our Lord we will surely return. O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, ease this journey for us and shorten its distance. O Allah, You are the Companion in the journey and the Protector of the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, the sorrows of sights, and a bad return regarding wealth and family." And upon returning, the following is added: "Returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord."

There is no specific supplication to protect the traveler until they return safely, but by observing the morning and evening remembrances, the aforementioned travel supplication, and saying: "In the name of Allah, I have put my trust in Allah, and there is no power nor strength except with Allah" upon leaving the house, it is hoped that Allah will protect the traveler, suffice them, and shield them.
