Is it permissible for a Muslim to build a grave for a Christian upon which there is a cross?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible for a Muslim to bury and inter the dead of disbelievers when there is no one among the disbelievers to do so. However, it is not permissible to dig a grave and place a cross on it, for the cross is a symbol of disbelief and idolatry, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the breaking of idols. Furthermore, placing crosses on the graves of disbelievers is considered an affirmation of their corrupt belief and an exaltation of them and their disbelief, which is forbidden. It is not permissible for a Muslim to dig the grave of a disbeliever if there are disbelievers who can do so, and placing a cross on it is not permissible under any circumstances.
