What is the ruling on shunning relatives because a female relative married a non-Muslim and her family approved of it, or because a female relative married an innovator, knowing that some relatives welcome these spouses and their families?

Marrying a Muslim woman to a non-Muslim is a reprehensible and invalid act, and her cohabitation with a non-Muslim is a form of adultery. The Muslim woman must be advised to fear Allah and leave this man. Otherwise, she should be shunned, and this may even be obligatory to serve a greater good.

It is obligatory to condemn anyone who approves of her action, for whoever approves of it is a partner in sin, and it is permissible to shun him if he does not repent, in consideration of the greater good.

The behavior of the other aunt, following the path of the innovators, and her marriage to one of them is reprehensible. She must be advised, and their falsehoods must be explained to her. It is permissible to shun her if she does not repent.

It is not permissible to show affection to the people of disbelief and falsehood, as this corrupts the heart and is a cause of Allah's wrath. However, it is permissible to treat them kindly and do good to them to encourage them towards Islam.
