How should I act towards my mother who interferes in my life and the details of my clothing, and asks me to buy an expensive diamond set, threatening me with unforgiveness and displeasure if I do not obey her?

A guidance for the mother who interferes in her daughter’s life: to be patient and supplicate for her guidance and righteousness, while showing her piety and kindness, and being careful not to disobey her. Obedience to parents is in what benefits them and does not harm the child. Therefore, obedience to the mother is not obligatory in preventing certain attire if there is no justification, nor is it obligatory to buy an expensive diamond set. However, one should deal kindly with her and show her piety as much as possible. It is not the mother’s right to make it difficult for the daughter by withholding forgiveness in order to exert pressure. If the beliefs contradict Islamic law, then it is not permissible to obey her, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no obedience in disobedience to Allah; obedience is only in what is good."
