What is the ruling on the art of using rice for writing and drawing, and presenting it as gifts, knowing that this art has a history connected to disbelief (kufr) and polytheism (shirk)?

It is permissible to write names on grains of rice. The basic principle concerning ordinary actions is permissibility, unless there is evidence of prohibition. Allah Almighty says: "And He has explained to you in detail what He has forbidden you." As for some people's claim that there is a resemblance between this act and the rituals of some disbelieving religions, this does not have an effect unless it is established with certainty or strong probability. If that is established, then it must be abandoned due to the prohibition of imitating the disbelievers. Nevertheless, a Muslim should occupy themselves with what benefits them and abandon what involves wasting money and time.
