What is the ruling on my not performing Friday Prayer with the Muslim congregation in an expatriate country, given that I do not know the condition of the Imam, whether he is a Sunni Muslim or not, and the mosque is far from me and I do not hear the Adhan?

Congregational prayer is obligatory for those who hear the call to prayer (adhan), unlike Friday prayer (Salat al-Jumu'ah) which scholars unanimously agree is obligatory in the city, whether one hears the call or not. Prayer behind a Muslim is permissible outwardly, as long as he has not committed clear disbelief. Prayer behind someone whose condition is concealed (mastur al-hal) is permissible by agreement of the imams. If the imam is an innovator who propagates his innovation or a transgressor, and prayer is not possible except behind him, then the worshipper prays behind him according to the general consensus of the early and later generations (Salaf and Khalaf), because congregational prayer is better than praying alone. However, one should strive to pray behind an imam who is not an innovator if possible.
