Is it permissible to reuse the trace of the envier for a ritual bath to ward off the evil eye, or must a new trace be used, and must the bath be repeated, and what is the maximum number of times it can be repeated?

The evil eye is real, and one of the ways to treat it is by taking water from the person who cast the evil eye, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) hadith (definition): "The evil eye is real, and if anything were to precede divine decree, the evil eye would precede it. And if you are asked to wash (for the one afflicted by the evil eye), then wash." This is also supported by the story of Sahl ibn Hunaif with 'Amir ibn Rabi'ah.

The method of taking the "trace" is to take something that has come into contact with the body of the person who cast the evil eye, such as a shirt, a date pit, fruit peels, or remnants of what they drank from a glass. This is then placed in water, which the afflicted person uses for drinking and bathing. Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen held the view that it is permissible to take clothing that directly touched the body of the one who cast the evil eye, such as an undershirt or a skullcap, and then give it to the afflicted person to drink from. Similarly, one may take from their "شعاره" (clothing that is close to their body) or the damp soil they walked on, and then sprinkle the afflicted person with it or have them drink it.

It is permissible to repeat the washing if the affliction by the evil eye from the same person recurs, or even for a single affliction, just as ruqyah (definition) and supplication can be repeated.
