What is the meaning of the Hadith: "A servant does not gain anything from this world except that it diminishes his ranks with Allah, even if He is generous to him"? And does it include the Hadith: "Indeed, the servants of Allah are not the pampered ones"?

The two Hadiths call for asceticism in this world and warn against relying on it. The first Hadith indicates that a Muslim's reward in the Afterlife is diminished in proportion to the worldly pleasures he partakes of, even if they are permissible, as Ibn Umar said: "A servant does not obtain anything from the world except that it decreases his ranks with Allah." The second Hadith warns against excessive indulgence in luxury, "for the servants of Allah are not those who indulge in luxury," and this indulgence is a characteristic of disbelievers and the affluent.
