What is the difference between black henna and black dye or red henna, and is black dye permissible?

What is prohibited is changing grey hair to black in particular, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "And avoid black." As for henna, there is no prohibition reported concerning it, and many of the early Muslims dyed their grey hair with it, so there is no objection to dyeing with it.
