What is the ruling on holding lectures and seminars to commemorate the Prophet's birthday, and composing poems for the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on this occasion?

It has been previously stated that celebrating the Prophet's birthday (Mawlid) is an innovation (bid'ah), and the means to an innovation share the same ruling as the innovation itself. Therefore, holding lectures and seminars, and composing poems specifically for an innovative occasion, with the intention of celebrating this occasion, take the ruling of their objective. If the sermon is originally legitimate, like the Friday sermon, and mentions the Prophet's mission or birth, then there is no harm in that. However, initiating a lecture on the day of the Mawlid, or closing schools and factories for its sake, or delivering sermons, lectures, and admonitions on that day, these are newly invented innovations that were not narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) nor from his companions. It is not permissible to assist in them with money, gifts, or by distributing drinks. Rather, they must be denounced and not attended.
