Is there anything in Sharia that disapproves of worshippers looking towards or behind people's houses while on their way to the mosque?

A Muslim must lower his gaze on the road, especially when going to the mosque, and not look behind him, as that contradicts decorum. It is forbidden to look into people's homes without permission, and Islamic law has prescribed seeking permission to protect gazes. Looking into the interior of a house without permission is considered a transgression, and it permits the people of the house to gouge out the eye of the one who looks. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, even attempted to strike the one who did so.
