The fatwa adopted by us is that intellectual property rights and similar intangible rights are owned by their creators, and thus it is not permissible to infringe upon them. This is also the decision issued by the Islamic Fiqh Academy. Accordingly, it is not permissible to use programs whose owners prohibit their copying. One should use original versions or free programs, and refrain from using copied programs without the permission of their owners, even if it is for uploading materials from the Holy Quran.
