Is Fajr prayer, after sunrise, performed with the intention of timely performance or making up a missed prayer?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If someone misses the Fajr prayer and prays it after sunrise, he should pray it with the intention of making it up (qada'). However, it is sufficient to merely specify the obligatory prayer (Fajr, Dhuhr, or Asr), and it is not a condition to intend "performance" for a current prayer nor "making up" for a missed prayer. Furthermore, whoever delays a prayer due to an excuse (such as sleep or forgetfulness) incurs no sin and must make it up once the excuse is gone. But whoever delays it without an excuse is sinful and must still make it up.
