Will the woman who complains against her nephew and causes him to be imprisoned in order to claim her debt, which he is procrastinating in paying, be sinful, and will she be considered a severer of kinship ties thereby?
If the debtor is in straitened circumstances, it is obligatory to grant him a respite until he is able to repay the debt, as Allah Almighty says: {And if there is one in [financial] difficulty, then [give him] time until a state of ease.}. However, if the debtor is solvent but procrastinates, it is permissible to demand payment from him and to refer his case to the judiciary.
