Is it permissible to eat from plants irrigated with stolen government water?

There is no objection to eating from crops irrigated with stolen water, but the value of the consumed water must be guaranteed to the competent authority. Ibn Maza mentioned that what grows from the crop becomes permissible for its owner, just like someone who fattens his animal with usurped barley; he must pay back its equivalent, and any increase in the animal becomes permissible for him. It is not obligatory to destroy the crops; rather, donating their growth is good but not obligatory.
