How does a father who has suffered a stroke, has no control over his urine, cannot speak, and is desired to be taken to the mosque, perform prayer? Should his son recite aloud so that he may hear? Where should his wheelchair be parked in the mosque? And should the son pray beside him?

The father must pray as long as his mind is sound. He should pray according to his condition: if he is able to sit, he prays sitting; if he is unable, he prays on his side, gesturing for bowing and prostrating. If he cannot speak, he should recite the remembrances in his heart.

If he is unable to perform actions or recite verbally, then only the intention remains: he intends that he is in prayer, and he intends the recitation, bowing, and prostrating. The father’s chair should be placed in the row if possible, otherwise in the back row, and someone should stand with him to complete the row so that he is not alone behind the row.
