What is the ruling regarding someone who slanders a chaste woman, if the prescribed punishment is not applied to him in this world, and the slandered woman and her children refuse to forgive him? And what must he do towards them?

Slandering chaste women is one of the gravest sins. The slanderer must offer sincere repentance and seek forgiveness from the one he slandered. If she does not respond, he must frequently supplicate for her and mention her kindly. What has befallen you may be due to her supplication or a trial, so you must humbly entreat Allah to lift the affliction. You are not required to refer the matter to the ruler for the implementation of the hadd (prescribed punishment); sincere repentance to Allah suffices.
