Is the Hadith: "Dye your beards and avoid black" authentic, and is the phrase "avoid black" included in it?

The scholars differed on the ruling of dyeing gray hair black, holding three views: prohibition, which is the most preponderant; or dislike without prohibition; or permissibility. Those who permit it argue that the command to change gray hair is not obligatory, that the addition of "and avoid black" in Sahih Muslim is questionable, that a number of Companions and Tabi'un did it, that the general command to change includes black, and that the saying "Contradict them" indicates the permissibility of changing with anything.
