Is it permissible to work in a bank if the work is in the field of computers?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible to work in banks that adhere to transactions compliant with Islamic Sharia and are free from usury (riba) and prohibited dealings. As for banks that deal with usury, it is never permissible to work in them, even if the worker is merely a guard, due to the involvement in cooperation in sin and aggression, as confirmed by the Almighty's saying: (And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression). The sin of usury is not limited to the one who consumes it and the one who provides it; rather, it includes everyone who contributes to it, as stated in the Hadith: "Allah has cursed the one who consumes usury, the one who provides it, its scribe, and its two witnesses," and he said, "they are all alike." Allah has made lawful sustenance easy for His servants, and whoever fears Allah, He will make a way out for him and provide for him from where he does not expect.
