The answer

Musical instruments are forbidden, except for the drum (daff) for women during the two Eid festivals and weddings, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "There will be people from my Ummah who will legitimize illicit sexual intercourse, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments," and his saying: "Two voices are cursed in this world and the Hereafter: a flute at a time of blessing, and wailing at a time of calamity." The scholars have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of musical instruments. Therefore, it is not permissible to work as a musician, and the fact that the playing is without singing does not change the ruling, because what is forbidden is the playing itself. Any income derived from it is forbidden because it is ill-gotten gain. The wife and children will be sinful if they know its source and spend from it, unless they are in dire need.
