Sleeping with one's wife in the same bed—let alone the same room—is part of a husband's good companionship with his wife, and it is more conducive to intimacy and affection. It is not, however, a religious obligation. The correct view is that if neither spouse has an excuse to sleep alone, then their sleeping together in one bed is better, as this was the practice of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Affection and compassion should prevail between the spouses, and each should consider the other's circumstances.
