What is the ruling on the money taken in exchange for enabling a merchant to benefit from a passport holder's share of hard currency?
It is permissible to take financial compensation in exchange for waiving the right to obtain hard currency if the granting authority does not stipulate that the passport holder needs it or is traveling, and does not object to him waiving his right. This permissibility is based on what some scholars have decided regarding the permissibility of waiving non-financial rights for financial compensation, such as the right of pre-emption, a woman gifting her day to her co-wife for compensation, waiving job positions, and relinquishing the right of custody for compensation. However, if the transaction exceeds the conditions of the granting authority, then it is not permissible to proceed with it.
