Allah Almighty has permitted the sick to break their fast in if fasting harms them, delays their recovery, or necessitates taking medication during the day. In such cases, they must make up for the days they missed. However, for a minor illness that does not cause hardship, breaking the fast is not permissible. If the illness is chronic and there is no hope of recovery, then neither fasting nor making up the fast is required; instead, one must feed a poor person for each day missed.
