The Sheikh pledged allegiance to Muhammad ibn Saud, and then to Abdulaziz ibn Saud after Muhammad's death. Both of them were fit for leadership, and through them much good was achieved. The Sheikh's pledge of allegiance was for the call to Tawhid (monotheism), and by it, he spared Muslims from peripheral battles. The Sheikh saw that pledging allegiance to Abdulaziz after his father was more appropriate, given what was known of his love for the call to Tawhid and his competence. This was preferable to disunity and infighting. The land was then unsafe, but security was achieved during the reign of Muhammad ibn Saud and increased during the reign of Abdulaziz. This was not a general pledge of allegiance to the Imam of the Muslims, but rather a specific pledge in a small region to secure it and uplift it.
