Do we believe in the hadiths of descent, vision, and the placing of the foot "without meaning," knowing that negating the how and the meaning is part of the doctrine of the Mufawwidah?

The principle in understanding the attributes of Allah Almighty is that the apparent meanings of the texts describing the attributes are known to us in terms of their meaning, but unknown to us in terms of their modality (kayfiyyah). This distinguishes between acceptable tafwid (delegation), which is the delegation of the modality, and rejected tafwid, which is the delegation of the meanings. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah clarified that the Imams, such as Imam Ahmad, do not deny the knowledge of the meanings of the attributes. Rather, they condemn the interpretations of the Jahmiyyah who distort words from their proper places, and they condemn the saying of those who attempt to define the modality (al-mukayyifah) who claim to know the modality. The sayings of the Salaf, such as: "Pass them on as they came without asking how (kayf)," and "The Istawa' (ascension) is not unknown, and the modality (kayf) is inconceivable," indicate that they affirm the meaning befitting Allah and negate the modality. If they had not understood the meaning, they would not have needed to negate the modality.
