Is it from the Sunnah to sit in gatherings of remembrance (dhikr) in the posture of the final tashahhud, with hands placed on the thighs?

The scholars have mentioned etiquettes for the student in scholarly gatherings, among them that he should sit before his shaykh with an attitude of reverence, respect, and humility, listening attentively, without distraction or fiddling, while avoiding excessive talk and laughter, and maintaining personal hygiene. He should also not sit next to the shaykh or on his prayer rug unless the shaykh explicitly orders him to do so.
