Is the unanswered prayer of an addict, regarding a sin known only to Allah, who seeks forgiveness but remains in the same state, to be considered a sign of Allah's wrath upon him?

The non-acceptance of supplication is not necessarily a sign of Allah's wrath; rather, it might be for a divine wisdom. Therefore, we advise the questioner to turn to Allah with sincerity and truthfulness, seeking His help to abandon the sin, and not to despair of His mercy. He should also increase in acts of obedience and expiating good deeds, and recall the ugliness of the transgression and Allah's awareness of it, and feel ashamed before his Lord. It is also recommended to read the book "Al-Daa' wal-Dawaa'" (The Disease and the Cure) by Ibn Al-Qayyim, to associate with righteous people, to constantly remember Allah, and to strive diligently in supplication without boredom, while having a good opinion of Allah, and gathering one's resolve and heart in supplication and taking the means to abandon the sin.
