Did Solomon, peace be upon him, have 999 wives or a number close to that, and what were the reasons for that?

The largest number of wives for Solomon, peace be upon him, established in authentic hadiths is one hundred women, and it was said to be ninety or ninety-nine. Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir and Ibn Hajar mentioned, citing the Salaf, that their number was one thousand women, and this is narrated from the Children of Israel, so it is neither to be believed nor disbelieved. This number does not negate or support what is mentioned in the hadiths. And Allah bestows upon whom He wills what He wills. He bestowed upon Solomon a great kingdom and strength enabling him to marry this number. This does not diminish the status of the Prophet; rather, it is part of the perfection of his dominion, his excellence, and his masculinity.
