Is it permissible for me to do a job with the intention of achieving self-satisfaction?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Righteous deeds are only achieved by realizing sincerity for the sake of Allah the Almighty and the Hereafter. It is not permissible for them to be intended for achieving self-satisfaction or the satisfaction of creation, as this contradicts the sincerity that is realized by singling out Allah the Almighty in intention and request. Sincerity is the purification of an action from observing created beings. A truthful person has no self-admiration. Sincerity is not complete except with truthfulness and patience. Self-satisfaction is a bane. The root of every disobedience, heedlessness, and desire is self-satisfaction, and the root of every obedience, vigilance, and chastity is dissatisfaction with oneself.
