How authentic is the narration that tells of a Companion disagreeing with his wife and going to Umar ibn al-Khattab to complain about her, only to hear the voice of Umar's wife, angry, whereupon he turns away, then Umar calls out to him and says: "O so-and-so, these are our wives; if we dislike a certain behavior from them, we accept other [aspects]. They raise our children and manage our affairs. I heard the Noble Messenger say: 'Indeed, woman was created from a crooked rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its upper part; if you wish to enjoy her, then enjoy her despite her crookedness, and if you try to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking a woman means divorcing her, so treat women kindly'"?

The mentioned narration in this exact wording was not found. However, Al-Tabarani narrated a similar account from Ibn Uyaynah, from a shaykh, from his father: Jarir ibn Abdullah came to Umar complaining about what he suffered from women. Umar said that he also experienced this. Then Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: "Has it not reached you that Ibrahim complained to Allah Almighty about the creation of Sarah, and it was said to him: 'Indeed, she was created from a rib, so bear with her as she is, as long as you do not see any disgrace in her religion'?" Thereupon, Umar said to him: "Verily, Allah has filled much knowledge between your ribs." Al-Haythami mentioned it in Majma' Al-Zawa'id and stated that it contains two unnamed narrators.
