Which is more forbidden: Zina (illicit sexual relations) or sodomy, and if compelled to choose between them, which is less forbidden?

The crime of sodomy is more dangerous and repulsive than fornication (zina), and a Muslim is required to avoid both. The fact that sodomy is more repulsive does not diminish the repulsiveness of fornication, which is among the greatest indecencies in the sight of Allah. Allah Almighty has warned against it by saying: "And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an indecency and an evil way." (Quran 17:32). The Prophet was asked about what most frequently leads people to Hell, and he replied: "The mouth and the private parts."
