What is the ruling regarding Friday prayer for a group of travelers led by one of them, when there is a nearby village from which the call to prayer can be heard?

If travelers are not obligated to attend Jumu'ah prayer, they pray Dhuhr. Jumu'ah prayer is not sufficient for them unless they pray behind those for whom Jumu'ah is valid.

However, if they are residents on a journey and have not traveled a distance that permits shortening prayers, and they pray Jumu'ah in the desert, scholars differ on its validity: The Hanafis, Shafi'is, and Malikis stipulate that it must be established in a village, town, within the confines of buildings, or in a built mosque. As for the Hanbalis, they consider it valid to establish it in the desert close to buildings, and they do not stipulate a building for it, but it is not valid if it is far from buildings.

Establishing Jumu'ah when there is a nearby village falls under the category of multiple Jumu'ahs, which is permissible out of necessity.
