The answer

Congregational prayer is obligatory for free, adult men. It is valid anywhere, according to most scholars. If the prayer is performed congregationally at home, there is no sin upon the one who does so, according to these scholars, even if he misses the virtue of praying in the mosque. Parents should not prevent their son from going to the mosque due to its virtue, unless their fear for him is religiously valid. In that case, their obedience is obligatory; otherwise, their obedience is not obligatory in preventing him from going to the mosque.
