Is it permissible to extract four healthy teeth for the purpose of getting orthodontic braces?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Orthodontic procedures, if performed for the purpose of increasing beauty, are unlawful (haram). However, if they are for correcting a disfiguring defect, there is no harm in them. If the procedure falls into the second category, and it cannot be performed except by extracting molars, and the extraction does not cause additional harm beyond the existing defect, then there is no objection to it. As for parental opposition, if it is in the form of rejection and forbidding the questioner from doing so, as long as they have a valid reason, the questioner should not proceed with this except with the consent of her parents.
