What is the legitimacy of wrapping or shrouding the deceased with a piece of cloth or a banner that contains the words of Allah or phrases of monotheism, and what is the legitimacy of burying the deceased with it, knowing that it may be exposed to impurities?

Writing the Qur'an or dhikr on the shroud of the deceased, or on what it is wrapped in, is not permissible according to Islamic law, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his noble companions did not do it. It is not a way of honoring the deceased; rather, honoring them is by following the Sunnah in their shrouding, washing, and burial.

Ibn al-Salah prohibited this act to protect the Qur'an from the pus and impurities that may soil the shroud in the grave. Ibn Hajar al-Haytami and others affirmed that placing great words, such as the name of Allah or the Qur'an, in the shroud of the deceased is a form of disrespect, because it will be exposed to impurity. Therefore, it is not permissible.
