What is the ruling on building ornate and beautiful mosques that aid in developingخشوع (devotional humility) due to their beauty, the pleasant voice of the Imam, and the quality of the air conditioning, carpets, incense, and loudspeakers?

Decorating and adorning mosques is prohibited. However, loudspeakers, air conditioning, incense, and carpets are not among the prohibited adornments. Rather, they are desirable and legitimate matters that help worshippers achieve devotion and comfort, provided there is no extravagance or excess. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded that mosques be cleaned and perfumed, for this preserves them and beautifies them with pleasant scents. As for carpets, they are necessary for the comfort of worshippers on hard floors.
