What is the ruling on one who says that the Qur'an is created? And what harm results from this statement in terms of creed? And what innovations might result from it?

The statement that the Quran is created is disbelief by the consensus of the Salaf, but the one who says it is not deemed a disbeliever until proof is established against him. Among the harms of claiming the Quran is created are:

1. Contradiction of the Book (Quran), the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Salaf of the Ummah, who affirm that the Quran is the uncreated, revealed Word of Allah. This entails corruption in belief and opposition to the Messenger (peace be upon him). 2. Making one of Allah's attributes created. 3. Nullifying Allah's attribute of speech, which is deviation concerning Allah's attributes and an accusation of imperfection against Him. 4. Negating Allah's speaking through revelation and denying the divine laws and revealed books. 5. Denying many verses that affirm Allah's speech to His prophets and messengers, such as: "And to Moses Allah spoke directly" [An-Nisa: 164]. 6. Making Allah dependent on His creation for expressing Himself, and for commanding and forbidding His servants, which attributes imperfection, weakness, and incapability to Allah.
