How should a Muslim deal with a person who has insulted the pure religion and the Noble Messenger, peace be upon him, taking into account that he is ignorant of Islam except for what he has heard and seen through the media, and should the interaction be by shunning him or by attempting to correct his misconceptions?

A Muslim must detest the slandering of religion or the abuse of the Prophet. The approach to dealing with the perpetrator of such acts differs depending on their situation: the defiant, knowledgeable person should be ostracized, while the ignorant follower should be treated gently, taught the true nature of the religion of Islam, and introduced to the Noble Messenger.
