How can a young Muslim man studying in the West, in a non-Islamic environment, preserve his religion and himself from falling into forbidden acts, such as drinking alcohol and illicit relationships, while desiring social interaction and forming friendships, especially with the presence of temptations and the inability to marry currently?

We advise leaving the abode of the disbelievers and moving to a Muslim country for study. If that is not possible, then move to a city where righteous Muslims are numerous, so you can associate with them. If even that is not possible, then remain with your wife, even if it means incurring debt for the marriage expenses. If that is not feasible, then close the door (to evil) and avoid mixing with the wicked, and beware of the footsteps of Satan, which begin with reprehensible acts and lead to disbelief.
