What is the ruling on gilding eyeglass frames with gold?

It is Islamically permissible to gold-plate eyeglasses, but their use is restricted to women only. It is forbidden for men to use anything gold-plated, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Gold and silk have been made lawful for the females of my Ummah, and forbidden for its males."
