Is the mosque greeting sufficient after sitting?

There is no harm for one who enters the mosque and sits before praying Tahiyyat al-Masjid (two rak'ahs of greeting the mosque) to then stand up and pray them. The majority of jurists hold that these rak'ahs are not forfeited by sitting, while the Shafi'is are of the view that they are forfeited by sitting. The evidence for them not being forfeited is the Prophet's (peace be upon him) command to Sulayk al-Ghatafani to pray after he had already sat down. It is also unanimously disliked to sit before praying Tahiyyat al-Masjid.
