Will a person be held accountable for his sins if he repents after failed attempts at repentance? Is his feeling of guilt, God's wrath, and fear of death—out of dread of torment—proof of his good intention to repent? And how can he meet God without being touched by fire or torment?

If a servant falls into sin after a sincere repentance, he must hasten to renew his repentance and increase good deeds so that his sin may be forgiven. This is because the repentance of the penitent is not invalidated by his return to sin if it fulfilled its conditions, the most important of which is that he was not determined to return to the sin at the time of repentance.

Remembering Allah’s wrath and fearing Him is a sign of piety. And whenever a person falls into sin and repents, this indicates his love for Allah and his hatred for disobedience.

Allah Almighty says: "And He is the One who accepts repentance from His servants."

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "All the children of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."

The penitent must keep away from whatever leads him to vice, such as bad friends and temptations, and increase good deeds, for Allah Almighty said: "Indeed, good deeds do away with evil deeds."

It is recommended for the penitent to pray to Allah for steadfastness, avoid places of sin and bad company, associate with the righteous, conceal himself, and remember that Allah is observing him.
